Same battery as in the ID. Buzz Pro. Same motor type as in the Tesla Model 3. TÜV-capable, developed and manufactured in Germany. The ESDI EV kit is not a hobby project – it is an engineering product made from industrial components.
The MEB battery pack: 82 kWh gross
| Feature | Wert |
|---|---|
| Gross capacity | 82 kWh |
| Net capacity | ~79 kWh |
| Cell type | Pouch cells (LG, Samsung, CATL) |
| Cell chemistry | NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) |
| Module | 12 Module |
| Weight | ~600 kg |
| Cooling | Liquid cooling |
| Nominal voltage | ~350 V |
Exactly the same cells and chemistry as in the ID. Buzz Pro, ID.4 and ID.5. Original MEB components.
Tesla Model 3 motor: up to 211 kW (PURE)
| Feature | Wert |
|---|---|
| Typ | Permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) |
| Max. power | up to 211 kW (286 hp) in PURE |
| Max. torque | ~420 Nm |
| Weight | ~80 kg |
| Efficiency | bis 97 % |
Compact, powerful, tested millions of times. ESDI has developed its own adapter for the T5/T6 drivetrain.
The weight calculation
What goes out: 330 kg diesel
| Component | Weight |
|---|---|
| 2.0 TDI Motor | 165 kg |
| Transmission | 70 kg |
| Exhaust system | 35 kg |
| Remaining system | 60 kg |
| Total out | 330 kg |
What goes in: 730 kg ESDI EV kit
| Component | Weight |
|---|---|
| MEB 82 kWh battery | 600 kg |
| Tesla Model 3 Motor | 80 kg |
| ESDI components | 50 kg |
| Total in | 730 kg |
Result: 2,650 kg
Planned figure for the T5/T6 PURE with front-wheel drive: around 430 kg of diesel drivetrain out, around 900 kg in (the battery pack and subframe alone weigh around 800 kg) – kerb weight around 2,650 kg. Payload initially drops as a result; with different springs the vehicle can be uprated enough to restore the same payload as before. We calculate the exact uprating using your vehicle registration document.
Consumption and range
| Speed | Consumption | Range (10–90%) |
|---|---|---|
| City 50 km/h | ~13,4 kWh/100km | up to 489 km |
| Country road 80 km/h | ~19,5 kWh/100km | ~337 km |
| Motorway 120 km/h | ~33,0 kWh/100km | ~199 km |
| Motorway 130 km/h | ~37,3 kWh/100km | ~176 km |
| Mixed cycle (calculated) | ~21 kWh/100km | around 350 km (realistic) |
TÜV process: individual approval under § 21 StVZO
Every ESDI conversion is presented to the TÜV as an individual approval. Scope of inspection: electrical safety, mechanical integration, chassis tuning, EMC. The TÜV support is included in the kit price. After approval: E registration.
Substance-preserving installation
Without extensive cuts to the body. Motor and battery are mounted via adapters and brackets.
Technical data: ESDI EV Technologies, as of 03/2026. Consumption values calculated based on physics, not WLTP-certified.
Frequently asked questions
Which battery is in the ESDI EV kit?
82 kWh MEB battery pack from Volkswagen – same cells as in the ID. Buzz Pro. Net: ~79 kWh.
Which motor is used?
Tesla Model 3 permanent-magnet synchronous motor with up to 211 kW (286 hp) in the PURE level and ~420 Nm of torque.
How heavy is the ESDI T5 electric?
Planned figure around 2,650 kg (PURE, front-wheel drive). The battery pack and carrier frame together weigh around 800 kg; the payload can be restored by uprating.
Is the conversion TÜV-capable?
Yes. Individual approval under § 21 StVZO. TÜV support and documentation are included in the turnkey price of 39,990 €; the fees for the expert report and individual inspection are additional.
Is the towing capacity retained after the conversion?
Yes, largely. The frame, rear axle and trailer coupling mount remain unchanged. Depending on the kerb weight, uprating may be necessary – the exact towing capacity is set by the inspector. For comparison: the ID. Buzz Freestyle/Pro are limited to 1,200 kg.
