ESDI EV Beetle Electric Conversion Kit
Our Beetle electric conversion kit was specifically developed for air-cooled Beetles with semi-trailing arm rear axle and has been tested multiple times in practice.
Unlike universal DIY solutions, the system comes fully pre-assembled, reversible and TÜV-ready.
The result: maximum performance and everyday usability with clean integration, no body cuts and no experimental wiring.

Installation at ESDI or a partner workshop – The pre-assembled system is installed, connected and commissioned.
TÜV inspection & handover – With our documentation, the technical inspection is no problem, then you take over your electric Beetle.
REVERSIBLE CONVERSION
The original vehicle structure is fully retained.

Power
Die kW- und PS-Angaben sind die Maximalleistung der Antriebseinheit. Eingetragen wird, was die Peripherie Ihres Fahrzeugs hergibt – Bremse und Fahrwerk geben den Rahmen vor, die Leistung wird darauf begrenzt.
Sie müssen also nichts aufrüsten, nur weil in der Tabelle eine große Zahl steht. Sie bekommen eine Einheit, die mehr könnte, als bei Ihnen freigegeben wird.
Klimaanlage
Der Käfer kam ab Werk nie mit Klimaanlage – und wir bauen im Zuge des Umbaus keine ein. Wurde nachträglich eine verbaut, bleibt sie nutzbar. Der Serienkompressor hängt am Riemen des Verbrenners und fällt mit ihm weg – wir setzen einen HV-Kompressor ein, der die Anlage weiterbetreibt und zugleich die Batterie kühlt.
Ist keine verbaut, entsteht durch den Umbau auch keine – nachrüsten können wir sie nicht. Das gilt in jeder Stufe gleich.
Ausbau des Verbrenners
Ihr Fahrzeug kommt leer zu uns, der Antriebsstrang ist dann bereits raus. Wir elektrifizieren, wir entkernen nicht.
Das übernimmt unser Partner CGM – Classic German Motors gegen Aufpreis, und CGM kann mehr: Restauration, Strahlen, Unterbodenaufbereitung und -konservierung, frische Bremsen und Achsteile. Ihre ausgebauten Altteile vermarktet CGM auf Wunsch in Kommission.
TÜV
Die Begleitung zum TÜV und die Vorführung des Fahrzeugs übernehmen wir – das ist Teil unserer Leistung.
Die Gebühren für Gutachten und Einzelabnahme stellen wir unverändert durch. Die Prüfung wird immer auf den Fahrzeughalter ausgestellt, Sie zahlen sie direkt.

Frequently Asked Questions about the VW Beetle Electric Conversion
Which Beetle models are compatible?
Our kit fits all VW Beetles with semi-trailing arm rear axle (IRS), built 1967–1980. This includes Beetle 1302, 1303, Cabrio and Super Beetle. Beetles with swing axle (pre-1967) require an additional rear-axle adaptation.
How much does the kit weigh?
The total kit weight is approx. 180–220 kg depending on battery size. Since the original boxer engine weighs approx. 100–120 kg, the additional weight is approx. 80–100 kg. Thanks to the low battery installation position, the centre of gravity improves significantly.
How long does the installation take?
For an experienced VW mechanic, approx. 3–4 working days. The kit is designed as a plug-and-play system – all cable harnesses, adapters and mounts come pre-assembled.
What range does the Beetle have afterwards?
Depending on battery pack: 150 km (PURE, 25 kWh) to 350 km (ULTIMATE, 48 kWh). Completely sufficient for typical use as a second car, cruiser or convertible fun. CCS charging is available from the Performance package onwards.
What does the Beetle electric conversion cost?
Das Kit startet ab 29.990 €. Schlüsselfertig kostet der Umbau 34.990 € — das ist der Kit-Preis plus 5.000 € Einbaupauschale. Das Basisfahrzeug und der Ausbau des alten Antriebs kommen getrennt dazu. Damit ist der Käfer das günstigste Einstiegsmodell in die Elektro-Klassiker-Welt.
Is the conversion TÜV-compliant?
Yes. All kits come with full TÜV documentation. Approval is straightforward when installed correctly.
