Since 2025, VW has been building an electric transporter again. But it is not based on the T7, does not come from Hanover – it is a Ford Transit Custom with a VW logo, built in Turkey.
What is the VW e-Transporter actually?
The VW e-Transporter is based on the Ford Transit Custom and is manufactured at the Ford plant in Kocaeli (Turkey). VW and Ford have a strategic partnership: Ford builds, VW sells. Under the VW badge is Ford technology.

The e-Transporter is ideal for fleets with a full warranty. In terms of price-to-battery ratio, however, it is expensive: 755 €/kWh. The ESDI T5 delivers more battery for less money and a proven platform ecosystem.
