Why is the 964 more expensive than the 911 G-model?

The 964 has a more complex chassis, power steering, ABS and more electronics than the G-model. Integrating the electric kit therefore requires additional adaptation work. The adapter plate is tailored specifically to the 964 chassis. In addition, the 964 benefits from a stiffer structure that better compensates for the extra weight of the battery.

The G-model (until 1989) and the 964 (until 1994) were both first registered before the 17 June 2003 cut-off date. That means: the expensive EMC test is usually omitted, provided all installed components carry a CE marking. With TÜV-compliant kits this is the case as standard. What does the inspector pay particular attention to?

With the Porsche 911 there are specific points that the TÜV inspector examines closely. The battery housing in the front end must be crash-safe — the 911 has its luggage compartment at the front, not an engine block as a crumple zone. With the H-plate the flat-rate vehicle tax of €191.73 per year is eliminated. In addition, the cheap classic-car insurance tariffs are lost. For many 911 owners that is an emotional point — the H-plate has symbolic value. However: a reversible conversion keeps the return to the original engine open. If the boxer is stored properly, the 911 remains theoretically H-plate-eligible again.
